Meet The Store Family - Shirlene
To celebrate Women's Month we caught up with Shirlene, who manages our JBay store.
  • Describe yourself in 5 words?

Competent ,goal driven , hardworking, honest and shy.

  • Where do you see yourself in 5 years' time?

In 5 years from now, I will have completed my teaching degree and major in math and science. I then want to work in a less fortunate area to develop the children's abilities and bring out the best in all of them. I also believe in the statement that education is the key to success.

  • Who is a woman that inspires you and why?

Cheron Kraak- local businesswoman in Jeffreys Bay( My hometown). She was the employer of my mother for nearly 30 years which also made it possible for me to be able to receive a good education up unto matric. Besides creating jobs in the area, she's also actively involved in the surfing industry and the surfing development in Jbay. they say that 'every drop counts' and this is just a drop in the ocean to help keeping the kids active with a sense of belonging as most of them come from a background where crime and drug abuse is a major problem.

  • What advice would you give to your younger self?

Don't underestimate your ability to do better than your best. Your childhood trauma does not determine your future. The possibilities are endless!

  • What is the significance of Women's Day to you?

In my opinion, Woman's Day is to celebrate the existence of every female/woman. It's to bring attention to issues such as violence and abuse against women, gender equality , political and other achievements of women.
